PhilosophyMy name is Monica Lynn Pleasants Molinar, and I am a deeply spiritual person, which is where much of my philosophy of life comes from. From a very early age, I began to see visions and experienced a sense of knowing what seemed unknowable. When I was young, I found this troubling; as an adult, I am comforted by the knowledge that in this life, there is more that meets the eye. I believe that there is a power greater than myself, and that we live in a loving existence. Because of my own background, I most often choose to call that greater power God, as that is a name that is most comfortable for me, personally. However, I also recognize and accept that there are many names for the source of our existence, and it matters not to me what you choose to call the source, or whether you choose to believe that no such source exists. I didn't make the universe or very much in it; therefore, the way I see it, I don't get to judge what happens in it or make up the rules for it. While I choose to call the source of my existence by the name of God, and experienced a primarily Judeo-Christian upbringing, I do not believe that there is only one 'right path to God', or one way to pray, or anything of the sort. To my way of thinking, if our creator wanted us all to act, think, live, and worship in the same way, we would have been created as clones or 'cookie-cutter' copies. Instead, we are each unique individuals. We experience life as humans in our own ways, and we seek (or choose not to seek) our way to our maker in a myriad of ways. Different, yet very interesting. Years ago, I was reading an online Q & A about the Hindu religion. A Christian person had written in, asking why Hindus seem to have so many gods. The answer resonated with me, and has stayed with me: "Picture a disco ball, covered with mirrors. Envision the ball itself as God, and each of the mirrors as God reflected to each of us. There may be different images or impressions, but God all the same." The statement above is paraphrased, because I don't recall the exact words, but the point is clear. Our journeys to God may differ, but those who search for love find God, for God is love. My belief is that every tradition of the world has something of value to offer. My choice is to glean what resonates with me from each of these traditions, and incorporate those lessons into my daily life. I do not live in a land of fear or judgment. I live with openness and an excitement for learning new tools and discovering new resources to assist me in my own journey each day. In the same moment, I am aware that I am living a human existence, and I have many lessons yet to learn. A Jewish friend once told me that the Buddhists (who believe in reincarnation) believe that if one has a very difficult life, it means that one is in a very good school this time around. Based upon the challenges I've faced throughout my life, it is clear that I must be near to the top of my class! Yea for me! Whereas my upbringing was one of 'steering clear' of those who were spiritual different from us, for 'fear of corruption', as an adult, I have chosen instead to embrace the differences within each of us and learn from those around me. How wonderful it is that I can say that I have friends that are from vastly different spiritual traditions (including non-spiritual Atheists), and that we can be in the same room with each other without fear, hatred, animosity, judgment, or any of the other negative emotions that plague our world today! I am honored that those close to me accept me for who I am. I choose to live a life of love, peace, compassion, and acceptance. We may not always agree, but we can peacefully agree to disagree. We are entitled to our opinions and respect for one another. Speaking of opinions, I have many and enjoy learning about yours. Hearty discourse is one of my most favorite habits, as I enjoy learning something new from everyone I come in contact with. I do not shy away from topics of religion, politics, or anything else for that matter. If you wish to talk about whatever is going on in your world, I'm happy to listen and share my own ideas as well. At the same time, silence is golden, as the saying goes. Yoga, quiet mediation, or silent, restorative bodywork can work wonders to restore and rejuvenate an overactive lifestyle. Looking forward to meeting and working with you,
